It has been two days and like they say, you don’t realize how much you love something until it’s gone. My Rex … gone like the wind. I’ve spent these last few days feeling like I lost a loved one; damn near next to tears over my car although I am not really all surprised about it dying because I knew it had been heading south these last few years. It never showed any *signs* of it, like most Hondas, but I just “had that feeling” my car was ill and everytime I took it to a mechanic, they said the car was okay. Well, I knew deep down something wasn’t right.

I’ve weighed my options and thought about buying my new car but upon looking at the new Civics (2005 Coupe), not only do I not really like their design … but they are a bitch to get insured for a decent price. I looked into one at Checkered Flag Honda which was priced excellent @ $12,700 along with some goodies but when I called my insurance company Allstate, they wanted like over $1200 for 6 months to insure it and I have a clean record except for maybe one or two minor violations; one wasn’t even a moving. They are both due to come off my record I think this August. But anywho, I have enough monthly payments chomping at my wallet as it is … rent, utilities, school payments, credit cards and I already pay like $74 a month for a 6 months with Allstate; they quoted me $544 for 6 months to insure the Rex. I don’t know about you but $544 sounds a whole lot better than $1200. In a nutshell, I can afford a 2005 Civic but not the insurance. So buying a new car is out of the question unless I find a new job working for Donald Trump. In my opinion, if you can’t afford the insurance … then you can’t afford the car.

So then there is the other option … my dream … my big kahuna … to drop a B-16A in the Rex. I get to keep my monthly payments cheap on my insurance, I’ll be driving a car that I love, and a 160hp sounds a whole lot better than a 115hp. A lot of people go for looks when buying a car but I like to move fast WHILE looking good … all I care about is *POWER*. There is nothing more satisfying than smoking a 2005 in a 1991. I can spend a couple thousand and it won’t hurt my pocketbook but once rather than buying a new car and it hurting my pocketbook for the next 3 years. I paid off my Rex four years ago so now it’s time to have some fun.

I’ve been doing my homework on doing the swap; checking out prices, technicians to do the work, extra little things to add in the money here and there and I’ve decided its the most economical route to take. Also because I don’t plan on getting rid of this car and it burns me up to the thought of someone else to drop a new motor in it and have fun in *MY* car that *I* busted *MY* ass and slaved *MYSELF* for 2.5 years to pay off. The inside is still immaculate like the day I bought it and it’s easy to upgrade. And besides, I will have the money to buy the engine next month. I have the money to get the same motor that’s in there already but I don’t want to do that. Since it needs a new one, I may as well upgrade because I probably won’t have this amount of money in my pocket ever again.

But for now I’m going to see if I can find me a bucket to drive for <$500. I was going for a mini van on Ebay but lost the auction. It sold for $405 and my highest bid was $400 ... talking about being mad at myself.
